Lunchie + Snackie + Dinnie Saturday

What’s for lunch today?? *Prawn Mee** Since we are going to catch Elysium @ GV katong and will be passing by the famous prawn mee stall down East Coast road. Last visited in February.

Reached the place about 1pm and the place was not as crowded as before. We ordered 2 medium bowls of prawn mee & prawn mee with pai gu ($8.80 each). On top of that I also ordered a few pieces of Wu Xiang~五香 ($4.80). In the store, you will find 8 out of 10 tables with a plate of Wu Xiang to company the main dish (prawn mee).
The prawn mee soup quality is good; you can taste the sweetness of the prawn in it and it is so tasty that I almost finished drinking all of it. The prawns are quite fresh and big, as for the pai gu it will be better if it can be more tender. The Wu Xiang is crispy and it is superbly when you dip with their chili sauce, it is just too tasty to be missed! Well, that’s for lunch!
After our movie, we took a walk to Parkway Parade shopping center (PP) and had a waffle with a scoop of durian ice cream @ Scoopz ($5.80). The waffle is crisp with texture and the durian ice cream’s has strong fragrance. However I still prefer the Mao Shan Wang ice cream at Ice Cream Gallery @ 242C Tanjong Katong road. They serve quite a variety of ice creams like Salted caramel, Earl Grey & Bailey. Do give it a try for it tinkers one taste bud.
Since PP is just a few minutes away to Changi Airport, we decided to travel our way there to have our dinner! Do you know that there is a staff canteen at terminal 2? Bet most of the public are not aware of it for the staff canteen has gems to be uncovered! One look at the entire canteen and you will find 2 particular stores with a queue of patrons. The store namely Wild Olives~Pasta & Western Cuisine and Ngee Kee~Fried Hokkien Mee Local Delights.
These are what we ordered.
Grilled Catfish Fillet with Lemongrass Butter served with grilled herb potatoes and coleslaw ($5.90)
Calamari ($4)
Fried Hokkien Mee ($3.20)
The catfish fillet has slight fishy taste but it can be covered with the lemongrass butter sauce dip. Their gilled herb potatoes are quite special however the coleslaw has too much mayonnaise. The fried calamari was served with curry leaves and it brings out the fragrance of the dish. Lastly, the hokkien mee was served with sweet prawn gravy which is extremely tasty. Thumbs up for the mee!!

Just a little note, the western store cashier who is also a server is wearing a hand glove. I pondered for awhile looking at him serving cooked food, handing cash, opening of fridge and containers of pre prepared food.. I find that instead of being Hygienic, what he had done was rather Unhygienic. I can see oil stains left on the notes when he returned the cash to me

Overall the meal was good for the price we paid. There is a Chinese saying, 肮脏吃肮脏大... :)

Ala-carte Dim Sum @ Crystal Jade Plaza Singapura

8 August 2013

Their Hi Tea starts from 2.30pm – 5pm and they are having a promotion of 30% off most ala-carte dim sum!!

Items ordered: 7
Siew Mai (Sold out)
Steamed shrimp dumpling (aka Ha-kau)
Steamed salted egg yolk custard bun (aka Liu Sa Bao)
Steamed Beancurd skin rolled with pork & shrimp in oyster sauce
Baked crispy honey BBQ pork bun
Pan fired red bean paste cake
Honey lemon drink (2 glasses)

Crystal Jade started to issue out queue numbers for the Hi Tea started. As it was still early, Ryan & I took the queue number and then walked around Plaza Sin. We head back to the restaurant at about 2.30pm and waited for 5-10 minutes before being allocated a seat. After screening through the menu, we found out that almost all of the dim sum have 30%. So we decided to order a few dim sums to try.

Our first order was siew mai, but we were told that it was sold out already. Hmm... it is kind of ridiculous thou, for it was still consider early! Can't help but wonder if their siew mai was one of the popular dish on the menu. Oh well, at least the rest of the dim sum were still available.

The service staff were friendly and promotes the baked crispy BBQ pork bun, since siew mai is out, we decided to give it a try. The卖像of the dish looks similar to Tim Ho Wah Baked Bun with BBQ pork, it was served warm and taste crispy. However I still prefer Tim Ho Wah baked bun with BBQ pork. :)

The ha-kau is stuffed with prawns and you can taste some pepper, not too bad. The beancurd skin rolled w pork & shrimp is average but the Liu Sa Bao is a disappointment! The custard is not flowing and it taste quite salt-ish, 名副其实的 Salted Egg Yolk!

The last dim sum, pan fried red bean paste cake is the best! The red bean is wrapped with pan fired mochi and you can see the red bean overflowing, SO Delicious!! Drooling already….

Total: 2 pax
Bill: $24

Seafood & Grill Buffet @ Movenpick Heritage Hotel Sentosa

27 July 2013

Is dinner time, Ryan & I were thinking of what to have for dinner this evening. We thought of traveling to Vivo City but since we have a $30 voucher for dining in at the hotel restaurant we decided to check out what they have to offer. The restaurant is serving seafood & grill buffet at $56* per person on Saturday. The service staff told us that the voucher is only valid on that day so he offered to show us the dishes. Both of us took a little tour around the restaurant and Oh Man the dishes looks delicious! We kind of decided immediately to have our dinner there but since we were both not *so* hungry, we then took a walk around Sentosa.

*Back at the restaurant*
The place was quiet and comfortable. I started off with the chill crab (small but not bad) and a few dishes of fish. Then after I took the cold prawns & oysters, the prawn is sweet and both dishes are fresh. The chef who cooks the pasta was fabulous (except for the 2nd chef who took over the shift) that I ordered 2 plates from him [aglio olio and carbonara pasta]. We are allowed to select the toppings and I choose scallops, prawns & mushrooms. The ingredients are chewy bouncy bouncy and every fresh. Love it!! I must say the food was excellent and I have not tasted such good quality pasta for a long long time. I have also tried their smoked salmon (sweet & tasty thumbs up), smoked chicken (salt-ish, still ok), brass fish (sauce was good), stingray (a bit dry), ice-cream & cakes (tiramisu, molten chocolate, mango, cheesecake, chocolate cake).

The total bill was about $126 (after $30 discount) for a Seafood & Grill buffet on a Saturday evening at Sentosa. Yes it may be a little pricey BUT if you have an occasion to celebrate for then I will consider it worthwhile. The restaurant is located on the left hand side of the main entrance, gonna be hard to miss it!! Haha.
