Ryan & I had our brunch at Jones the Grocer @ Mandarin Gallery. We ordered the Traditional English Breakfast (TEB) and Eggs on Toast (Smoked Salmon on Sourdough Toast with Avocado & Poached Eggs). The TEB is quite similar to Wild Honey’s English breakfast and their poached eggs were a failure as it was overcooked! Overall the food was average and I do prefer Wild Honey’s breakfast for sure.
In the evening we took a cab to Spruce (not very accessible) for our dinner. Ryan had made a reservation and we were shown to our seats pretty soon. Indoor & outdoor seats were available and we choose to seat outdoor to enjoy the cooling weather and the cozy atmosphere! As it was Christmas season we decided to stick to their Christmas set menu (to rest our brain). The Christmas day dinner set cost $65 per person, as it has 2 main to choose from we selected one each as our main dish. The rest of the dishes are fixed.
The Walnut Roasted Beat Salad served with dates and goat cheese. It was my first encounter with goat cheese and I don’t like the taste.. bleah.. The Pumpkin soup was nice, Oven Roasted Turkey is a bit dry and the Kurobuta Pork Loin is super tasty! I find the meat tenderly cooked and goes well with the sauce & mashed potato. Lastly is the Warm Apple Crisp with Kapiti Ice Cream, the normal combi that is warm and sweet (that’s why it is a dessert), bottom line is it taste fine no surprises for me. Both of us were pretty full before the dessert was served, after a few bites we paid the bill and left the place for we have a movie to catch! We wanted to hail a taxi but it wasn't easy. As we walked down the road we saw a bus stop and to our surprise there are buses to Marina Square!! Yea!!
